History of Hello Kitty

"Whitey Kitty" is what Hello Kitty was originally named. This is from one of the cats that Alice kept in Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking-Glass. This name was not adopted despite the popularity of British culture among Japanese boys and girls.
Dear Daniel, Hello Kitty's boyfriend, was created in 1999. Designers created his name from the 1971 film "Melody" which Mark Lester starred as a character named Daniel and has songs from the 70s group the Bee Gees.

Hello Kitty's World

The fictional world of Hello Kitty includes numerous fictional friends and family members. Hello Kitty is also friends with other Sanrio created characters. Kero Kero Keroppi is one of these characters. He has recently made his way back on the Sanrio books in late 07. Pets of Hello Kitty include a pet cat named "Chammy Kitty" and a pet hamster that goes by the name of "Sugar". Chammy looks like Hello Kitty herself, but has more feline like characteristics. Sugar, her other pet was given to her by her boyfriend, Dear Daniel.

Hello Kitty has held the ambassador for UNICEF position for United States children since 1983. The Sanrio brand came to an explosion in the late 1990s when celebrities such as singer Miriah Carey took on Hello Kitty as a fashion statement. New Kitty products can be found in almost every American department store and also appeared in a marketing campaign for the Target stores.
